Sunday stress

Anxiety about the working week starts just after 4pm on Sunday afternoon, according to a recent survey. The onset of the "Sunday blues", as a mild form of depression, begins halfway through the afternoon and continues into the evening.

40% of those responding to the survey admit that their Sunday nights are filled with dread and anxiety. For one in ten, the feeling of stress begins even earlier, at 10am.

Research by MIND, the mental health charity, in 2010 found that the recession had increased the sense of fear about returning to work. Psychologists have suggested that ways to counter the Sunday blues include having a busy schedule, taking exercise, and being around other people.
